Converting Items Using Propane from 1 lb Bottles to 20 lb Bottles
So! This is not a 'regular installment'...just an idea that has worked for us. (Make sure you scroll down if you want a short tutorial on bottling peaches). Okay, let's say you want a back up way to cook in case there's some sort of emergency or shortage of electricity or natural gas. You're not "rich" enough to buy a Camp Chef, but you have an old Coleman propane camp stove that your dad gave you when you were first married, poor, and he felt sorry for you. You only have so many of those little green bottles of propane and you don't really know how long they will last. Well, those 5 gallon tanks of propane are MUCH cheaper per volume than those little bottles. Why not get a relatively inexpensive conversion kit and hook that 20 lb up to your old Coleman and have an option for longer-term cooking. A few of those 5 gallon propane tanks, with a conversion, will make a stove like that cook for a loooooong time. (You can even get conversion kits for hooking one of those propane lanterns up to a 20 lb tank!) B&L Propane can put some of these things together, but you can also get them at places like Sportsmans' Warehouse or Home Depot. Pay attention to the safety tips in this video (and I would move the tank MUCH FURTHER away from the flame): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8LX4O1M2yZ8
