More Thoughts on Dealing with Possible Energy Shortages in the Winter

It's not just a conspiracy theory that energy shortages are more of a possibility with each coming winter ( https://search.brave.com/search?q=energy%20shortages%20in%20the%20united%20states%20this%20winter%3F&source=web ) . We won't get into the politics of it, but there are some things you can do, even on a budget, to minimize the effect of high costs, brownouts or blackouts in cold weather: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=APOlZdM8hoU https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=g2pPZ-sD8h0

Emergency Heat

Winter is coming on and if there are any disruptions to the usual power or gas supplies, you will want blankets, warm clothing and alternate sources of heat. These pictured were on display at Walmart the other day. I would definitely get a hose and 20 lb tank of propane rather than the much more expensive and temporary option of a ton of those little green bottles. Here are the online sources: https://www.walmart.com/search?q=mr.%20heater%20portable%20buddy%209000%20btu%20propane%20heater%20mh9bx&typeahead=mr.%20heater Research options carefully, some are not meant for indoors and/or will require a window to be opened a couple of inches (especially the ones that double as cookers)!!! https://www.amazon.com/s?k=mr+heater&crid=1ZA56PZ699Z8J&sprefix=mr+heater%2Caps%2C135&ref=nb_sb_noss_1 You don't need the regulator for the simpler heater applications. https://www.amazon.com/s?k=mr+heater+metal+flex+hose&crid=T29G5UN0BW3O&sprefix=mr+heater+metal+flex+hose%2Cap...

Vacuum Bags

Image
Here is a great product for storing food that we've not shared before: https://outofair.com/ or https://outofair.com/precut-vacuum-sealer-bags discussed at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aOE0nXWCeCk (I think this is the sealer he was using: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01KCK9W1K/?tag=thewire06-20&linkCode=xm2&ascsubtag=AwEAAAAAAAAAAkFB&ref_=nav_ya_signin or just google "vacuum sealer machines" and research). We've been using the mylar bags for our freeze drying, but this looks like a good idea.

THINK IT THROUGH...

I've posted about this before. The purpose of this is to get viewers to notice that just because a food storage/emergency preparedness company advertises a TON on the radio or wherever, does NOT mean they carry the best product for your money or that one simple purchase will take care of all of your preparedness needs. When you see something advertised in these genres (or any other, for that matter), always do some RESEARCH before you buy. Those who design ads are very good at what they do, including convincing you that you need something when you really don't, or that the company that is paying them lots of bucks carries the only legitimate product they are blabbing in your face (or ears) about. We have learned that by using some analytical thinking we can avoid throwing a lot of money away. FOR INSTANCE...there are food storage companies whose ads suggest that when you buy a few buckets of their stuff, your worries are over for the coming "apocalypse". Well, it'...
