“Hope and Pray for the best, but plan for the worst.”
-Adapted by MaryAnn Furse
Goals:
Practice:
Set
aside the time it would take to watch a movie and
watch these two videos with your loved ones (links accessible on email, facebook and blog versions of this letter, see below):

Without getting all ‘doom and gloom’ discuss what you have learned and what you can do to be ready for these and other possibilities. God’s work on Earth is and will be progressing, but we can’t ignore the fact that great challenges have been foretold for these times. Even if they are just interruptions, how we weather them and are still able to perform what we were sent here to accomplish will greatly depend on how we have prepared.
Short Term Preparedness:
Brainstorm ways you can preserve the perishable food in your home in the event of a short-term interruption in the power supply. Plan for at least 2 or 3 days to a week. Keep in mind that the government will repair its own infrastructure before branching out to public needs.
Long Term Preparedness:
Brainstorm ways you can have enough energy and resources in your home for light, cooking and heat if there is a long-term interruption in the power supply.
Prep Equipment:
See the videos below.
Connect:
Just for fun, practice as a family creating
micro-climates in your home. Practice cooking with alternative forms of energy.
The two videos above were strongly recommended by our Hurricane Area/Stake Preparedness Specialists. The first, featuring Dennis Quaid, is called “Grid Down Power Up”. The second is from The Provident Prepper and is titled “The Grid is Going Down! 9 Steps to Get Ready With Jim Phillips”.
For October’s newsletter, we included a long list of preparedness ideas and items for wintertime emergencies. If you are the kind who would rather watch videos, here are a few more informative ones (use the space below to jot down things you want to remember on the paper version).
