Talk About Power!!!
Talk about power! If and when there is a short-ish power outage we hope we are all ready to slip into "camping mode". You'd definately want to keep your refrigerator door closed. (It's a good idea to fill up extra room in your freezer with bottles of water that become ice, like used gallon jugs or 2-liter pop bottles. Keep them as high as possible in the freezer.) But if the outage extends into days or longer, the "camping mode" might include quickly consuming or preserving food that has to be kept cool and relying on your non-refrigerated food storage. BUT!!! There are options that can keep your refrigerator and other essentials running, particularly if you have fuel stored up or solar panels. If you're wondering about storing power, here's a company with some great options: https://ampacepower.com/, and here's another to compare: https://lionenergy.com/ (both have the option to hook up with solar or be re-charged with a generator). And here's yet another reputable company, featuring reliable tri-fuel generators: https://firmanpowerequipment.com/. If you know of other reliable products for producing or storing electrical power, particularly those that folks-like-most-of-us-on-a-budget can afford, please share them in comments (keep in mind that sometimes the most popular, most advertised brands are the least reliable...at least that's what I keep hearing...you know, the ads with the deep voice and the macho-looking survivor-type guy...but that'd be better than nothing if it fits your budget!). NOTE: ALWAYS consult with a qualified electrician when tempted to hook a generator up to your home's circuit panel...there are some definite safety and fire concerns that have to be addressed both legally and if you have a conscience! hint: https://www.homedepot.com/p/Reliance-Controls-10-Circuit-30-Amp-Manual-Transfer-Switch-Kit-310CRK/205793178). My goal, in coming weeks, is to continue to learn more about battery backups and solar options. I will share what I learn.
