About the October 2024 Back to Basics Newsletter

Hello friends. Thank you once again, Jarolyn Stout, for this excellent newsletter! As usual it's posted in the "Back to Basics" section of this blog. It’s all great stuff. “The Doctor Is In …Dr. Mom, That Is” section has great remedies for common issues when outside medical resources are limited (or when you just want to practice common sense) …but gather the inexpensive supplies first! The timely “Real Life Lessons from Hurricane Helene” is full of great preventative measures we can take now for emergency situations. The “Preparation Smorgasbord”, to me, is a MUST READ…probably because I recently listened to LDS President Russell M. Nelson talk about preparedness here https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=C4m2bAGhzJY. The whole message is wonderful, but from about 5:00 in to about 6:45 he clarifies for me the importance of being spiritually prepared, emotionally prepared AND temporally prepared. Spiritual and emotional preparedness are the highest priorities, yet we cannot expect that our temporal needs in tough times of any kind will be automatically addressed simply because we are developing spiritual strength and emotional resiliency. In fact, I believe they go hand in hand. One who is becoming more spiritually grounded will naturally look to ensure that other areas of his or her life are gaining reliability as well. Consistent growth in one area does not need to compete with strength in others. It’s been my experience, as I’ve rubbed shoulders with many good folks of differing backgrounds, that instead of justifying weakness in temporal preparedness, true growth in multiple areas becomes more and more complimentary as one increases their overall potential in any. Anyway, click the "Back to Basics" link above to read the newsletter.
